Villanova Wildcats Women's Basketball Reaches WBIT Final Four Again
The Villanova Wildcats women's basketball team has secured a spot in the WBIT Final Four for the second consecutive year, following a 71-61 victory against the Portland Pilots at Finneran Pavilion. This advancement allows them to face Belmont in the semifinals, marking an important milestone for the team. Guard Jasmine Bascoe emphasized the significance of the win, particularly for the players concluding their home games. Last season, the Wildcats reached the championship but have many new faces this year, with only a couple of players having prior experience in high-stakes situations.
Coach Denise Dillon noted the team's progress despite challenges, highlighting their resilience throughout a demanding non-conference schedule. Bascoe led the team with 20 points and set a freshman record for steals in a season, showcasing her all-around abilities. The Wildcats capitalized on Portland's 20 turnovers, converting them into a substantial points advantage. With contributions from multiple players, including Maddie Webber and Ryanne Allen, Villanova maintained control of the game, ultimately preparing for their semifinal matchup on March 31.
